Grey Market Products-BEWARE!

Don't waste your $ buying from this company! When I shipped my Coolpix 900 to Nikon repair center to fix the LCD display, which stopped functioning after 2 years, I learned from Nikon it was a gray market product which they will not repair (and may be why it broke). From Nikon site: Gray Market items are not designed to be sold in a particular market and cannot be supported by the authorized importer because they may not meet mandatory safety and certification codes. Because these items are not designed for a particular market they may not function properly, or the authorized importer may not be equipped to provide service, support or software.

Be careful about buying from AmericaCameras.com

I ordered a SONY RX100 camera online after calling them to make sure the camera was a new one because it was priced $100 lower at 394.99 than everywhere else at $499.00. They assured me it was new and I went online to order. I received an order detail by email of $394.99. Subsequent to this order I received a call on my cell phone asking if I wanted a battery and charger with it and a case. The case would be $29 and the battery and charger $79. I SHOULD have told them to put it in writing but I agreed. I was distracted by the call as I was busy with someone else at the time. When the item came the box includes the battery and charger and a case but the bill is for a "kit" for $589.99. When I called them they said something about a European model that doesn't come with the battery but they sent the American model that does. The case is a an ill fitting overpriced case (I bought a good small case in Staples for $10). I had to argue with them and finally they took off $60 and sent a cheap tabletop tripod which I didn't need to make up for the, what I call, "bait and switch" techniques used. They should show you what they will be charging before you OK the sale and that is what reputable online retailers do. They never did that!

I understand as I bought a ring and it wasn't till a few days after I started wearing it that a sliver of metal came out of the side of it and they won't refund it or send me a new ring. I'm not very fond of them right now...

Guest

thank you for your report. It saved my money.

Guest

This sounds exactly like the doings of another company who goes or used to be called ON POINT CAMERAS. They were based in Brooklyn.

I had the exact same experience.

Awful people to do business with. Stay away from *** like these people.

Guest

Typical bait and switch company. Advertise at a low price then make you call them back for "security reasons" and start hitting you with "what battery do you want" and we can throw in a charger and so on.

In the end they are as expensive or more as anybody else. In all a bunch of crooks and lying *** holes.

Cancelled my order which they actually confirmed. Waiting that they try to charge my credit card so that I can have some fun with them

How fast did you cancel your order?

Guest

Just tried buying a TV from them. Got a great price.

Selected overnight shipping. Called in the morning to confirm everything was okay and confirm I could get the TV by superbowl weekend. An absolute *** of guy interrupted me and said they don't ship TV's overnight and the website says that.

Website didn't say that...let me select and pay for overnight. Guy kept interrupting me and an overall *** I told him to cancel the order on the spot...

Guest

This company is a scam. DO NOT BUY from them.

They lure you in with low prices and then send you an email or call you and tell you to call to expedite the order. Then your purchase goes up (mine $350) because they tell you the camera does not come with a battery or charger.

They straight out lie to you. I canceled my credit card because I was afraid they would use my information.

Guest

I think they're a bunch of crooks. I placed an order for a camera, then received a very uninformative email saying I needed to phone them to make sure my order was processed.

When I phoned (and went through 10 minutes of brain-numbing muzak loops), they said "Oh no, your order is fine, but you didn't order a battery." I was most surprised a battery didn't come with this brand new camera and said that I'd order the battery from Amazon, and they then pressed and pressed me to buy the battery and "Why get it from Amazon". I told them I didn't trust them because their product description was inaccurate. I should have cancelled the order then and there.

I'm still waiting for the camera - will update if/when it arrives. Wish I'd Googled them first!

Guest

My company ordered a camera and we were (you guessed it), called regarding an 'international' model. We then researched the company and found this and other sites warning us from doing business with them. We are cancelling ASAP.

Guest

I ordered a nikon D5200 from these crooks. A week later a rep called me and said that I ordered the European model.

Must've been why it was only $280. I changed the order over the phone to a Nikon D3100 for about $309...but the bs doesn't end there. 3 weeks later, I still had not received my camera. I called and they assured me that it was leaving the warehouse in the next 2 days and I would be charged at that time.

I ordered it from another company and cancelled this order.

I just checked my bank account, and oh yeah, they took the $309 out ! Do not deal with this company!!!!

Canon T5 Photo Camera Review from Tucson, Arizona

I am disgusted with this company. My teenage son has been saving his money for a nice camera for a long time. He researched cameras to make an informed decision on what to buy, then shopped around to find the best price. He was excited to find the price advertised on this website, and nervously parted with his money to buy the camera. For the next several days I got some phone calls and emails saying they needed to verify my billing address before they could ship his order. I called back a couple of times and was on hold for so long I finally had to hang up. When we finally made contact I learned that the address had nothing to do with it, as they had all the information they needed. They were calling to inform me that the camera didn't come with a battery, and that would be x-amount more. An amount that my son didn't have and that I was not expecting to pay. But at that point, what could I say but ok, go ahead and rip me off. The price ended up being more than what we could have bought it for somewhere else. Also, my son was anxious about getting it for a particular event, and ordered it early. We ordered the camera on the 13th of the month, didn't get the notification of shipment until the 20, and as of the 24 the post office had not even received the package yet. Not only will I not recommend this company, but I will recommend against it.

Sounds eerily similar to my ordeal. Supposedly the money would not be taken out of my account until the item shipped....

***.... they took it right away. When I cancelled, the guy hung up on me.

I had to fight for 3 months to get my money back, cancel my bank card.... I'll read reviews next time.

Guest

All of this company's profit comes from consumers who did not research them first. They are stationed in the UK and use bait and switch tactics which will hopefully one day get them in a heap of trouble. So far they have gotten away with their scam but it won't last forever.

Terrible customer service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We ordered a camera online for a certain amount. Suddenly my card was charged for a much higher amount. After a lot of time on the phone, we solved the issue, paid EXTRA for express shipping, which never made it on time. We then cancelled the order and are still waiting for the refund after 10 (!!!) business days. After being on hold for over 15 minutes this morning, they told me it would take 15 business days to get my money back. Not only were they extremely rude on the phone, but their hours are hilarious.... they DO NOT respect the business hours they announce on their answering machine. You are lucky if you get to talk to somebody!

Ordered a camera. Did not get all the items in the bundle ples it was a grey market with no warranty

Ordered a $650 camera bundle and when received it was in a plain white box rather than the expected Panasonic box. This was because it was a grey market with no warranty. No where in their ad did it say this plus did not receive two of the items listed in the bundle. Their customer service rep was very rude plus charged me $90 to return it. Buyer beware as you will not get what you order and they hold you hostage with no way to get your money back. My mistake was not reading the other reviews on the web before ordering.

Bait and Switch

On 11.19.15 I placed an order for a Nikon D3300 DSLR camera with 18-55mm lens for $305. It was the lowest price I found for that item. I received an email on 11.22 asking me to call a non 800 number for verbal confirmation in order to ship. The employee on the other end then told me I would need to purchase a charger and a memory card or the product would not work. A table top tripod was also included in the order. They then sent me new invoice on 11.23 to reflect these additional items, bringing my new total to $519.98. The invoice now reflecting a "package price" to include the aforementioned items, with a screen protector, cleaning kit, and warranty upgrade also added. All of these items have $0.00 on their line. I was told shipping would take two weeks. On 11.24 I received an email saying my order had been sent to the warehouse. By approximately mid-December I had not received the camera, much less an additional email with a tracking number or any additional shipping information. With some time to think, I had grown uncomfortable with the price point and decided I should ultimately cancel the order and had no trouble doing so. By mid January, I noticed that I had not seen a refund on my credit card. When I called, they said it would not go through until at least 30 days from cancellation. So I continued to wait. I called again in the second week in February to follow up and was told that it had in fact gone through, but to call again in at least 9 days to check on the status. I called on 2.22 and was told that my refund was being sent via check and it would not be mailed until March 10. I still haven't seen it and have asked my credit card company to dispute the charge.

Bought a Nikon 9700 last August, advertised as new. Four months later it stopped focussing, sent to Nikon for warranty repair. Nikon told me it was refurbished, and had proof of it. Only response from the crooks at AmericasCamera was that Nikon was a disreputable company trying to rip me off, in a long run-on sentence with 8 misspelled words. They have not communicated again to me or Amazon other than to say return period has expired. Amazon and Nikon have both done their duty, AmericasCamera is fraudulent.

These people are very rude, don't want to help. i don't even know what's their job description. They would never pick up the phone or they would just hang up on you while you're talking. I am so upset and frustrated. They would put a very cheap price on the website and then make you pY for every single detail until you pay more than what you would spend if you went to best buy or another store. One star would be too much, they need negative 10stars.

Sold camera without US warranty or battery, not an authorized dealer, terrible customer service

I was considering placing an order for a Canon Powershot SX60 from Crispdeals, but was concerned as the price seemed low ($339) and was wondering if the business and camera were legit. I called 872-356-**** x715. I was specifically concerned about the price being low, and inquired as to whether it was a grey market camera. I was assured it definitely was not. I asked if it came with a U.S. warranty card. I was told that was absolutely the case. I inquired about the return policy and whether there was a restocking fee. I was told there was NOT a restocking fee. The salesperson I spoke to (a man with a NY accent) said I also needed a battery and charger, which did not come with this offer. I asked if it was the same as the SX50 battery and charger, as I already have those. I was told it was NOT. There was an additional $80 charge for this item. I researched crispdeals.com online to make sure it was a legitimate business. I placed my order with crispdeals. The charge showed up on my credit card as being from Acameras, a company I did not research in advance. I got concerned and decided to cancel the order. I sent two emails BEFORE the item was shipped on Dec.30, 2015, and on Jan.2. I also called but got a recording saying the inbox was full and no messages could be left. The camera arrived. The camera I received was GREY MARKET. We know this because we contacted Canon. We gave them the serial number and they said is NOT covered by U.S. Warranty. In fact, it is apparently not even covered by Canadian/European Warranty (the serial number came up as invalid). Canon also told us that neither Acameras nor Crispdeals are authorized Canon dealers. The camera came with a EUROPEAN charger. Canon was able to tell me this because it has a separate plug. Canon also confirmed that the battery and charger ARE the same for the SX50 and SX60, so the information given to me by the salesperson on this issue was also not true. (So I didn't need to buy it.) I immediately called Crispdeals about returning the camera. I was told there would be a restocking fee. I got upset because this was NOT consistent with what the saleperson told me. The person at customer service hung up on me. I called again. The person said a return authorization RMA had been issued and hung up on me again. I wrote about the restocking fee and shipping and insurance costs. I finally received a reply that there would be no restocking fee. The shipping and insurance costs were not addressed. I wrote again and was told there WOULD be a restocking fee. For a return, they would also make me pay for shipping and insurance, even though the order was cancelled before it was shipped To top it all off, I received a $12.28 foreign service fee charge on my credit card, because they said the company is based in Great Britain (although according to the salesperson, they are in NY).

The distribution warehouse for this company is in Brooklyn, the company itself is stationed in the UK. The UK actually has very strict policies on bait and switch tactics being used by companies within their national borders however I have not been able to find a business bureau equivalent in that country to file an official complaint and get this company shut down for good.

I'm pretty sure it's one or two employees running the warehouse and they give multiple names then put you on hold only to pick up moments later and use a different name. Professional scam artists for sure.

You cannot contact the BBB with issues to this company as they are not registered. They are centralized out of the United Kingdom, which believe it or not has even more strict policies regarding bait and switch tactics used by merchants. Unfortunately it is very hard to get an international lawyer to take the case... although Id say its only a matter of time. This company has unbelievably horrible customer service, mostly do in part to their employees actually playing multiple roles at once and transfering customers to themselves under false names. They are criminals and scam artists. Sorry to all that get involved with this company.

Crooks!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My head is still reeling from my experience with this "company". (Are they even a company, or just some guy fencing second rate goods in his garage? At this point, I don't know.) I ordered a camera online and was surprised to get an email telling me that for "my security" I needed to call them to "verify" my order. (Huh? I should have seen the red flag right then.) When I didn't call, one of them called me, (from an unidentifiable number) speaking as fast as an auctioneer in a heavy New York accent. The camera was $319. "Uh, you wanted da battery wit dat, right?" "You mean it doesn't come with a battery?!" (Excuse me?) "No, dat's extra... For a hundred dollahs we'll give ya da 5 hour battery, okay?" He was talking so fast I didn't know what hit me. Then it was another item, and another. Finally he gave me the total of $499.00! I said, "What? How did you get that number?" Well, he had charged me "extra" for the battery charger too! As though the camera hadn't actually come with a battery, OR a charger! I half expected him to charge me extra for the plastic casing that contains the camera next! He talked so fast I was off the phone and robbed before I knew it. Having taken a moment to think, I called back right away to cancel my order, but had to wait for "customeh service"... Some guy, abrupt to the point of rudeness (customeh service) put me on hold and simply didn't come back. Nice way to avoid giving me a refund! I called again and got the SAME GUY. Repeated myself and he said, "Oh, well you'll have ta talk ta customeh service!" I said, "You ARE customer service and you put me on hold and didn't come back. I want to cancel my order!" "Yeah, your order is cancelled." (Instantly. I don't believe he cancelled that order that fast. He didn't even have time to look it up.) "Please give me a cancellation number." (Again instantly, making it up on the fly, "775577". (Liar, liar, pants on fire!) "Please email me this." "Okay" ( He hung up. There was no email). The next day I informed them clearly in an email that I demanded to cancel the order and furthermore I had cancelled my credit card. They sent an email FINALLY confirming that they had cancelled it and refunded my card. I still don't know if I believe them. If not, my credit card company will handle it. They are a bait and switch scam of the worst order. STAY AWAY!

This is very true. Same thing happened with me.

I regret the day I bought my camera from this company. I had the bank involved so hopefully I am going to be able to get my refund

Guest

If you want your money back you have to file the return as required by the company. Then go DIRECTLY to your bank to report the situation.

If the company doesn't respond within a designated amount of time, usually 48 hours, your bank may and should credit your account for the money lost and then take the issue up personally with America Cameras. They are no stranger to this process.

As soon as I started it back in Feb for my faulty transaction they returned my money immediately. They may not be scared of the individual consumer but they will not challenge federal charges.

Guest

Did you get your money back? Only I'm in the same situation.

No camera, still waiting as it should have been delivered two days ago.

I'm getting worried that they have just stolen my money. This is a bogus company.

Bait and Switch

This company is horrible....worst customer service ever. Bait and Switch tactics. Placed order, then was called and told price would be much more. Also told that items such as a battery and charger that were shown in the photo online were not included, and they tried to upsell me. I Cancelled order but never got confirmation of cancellation and their order system continued to show my order in progress. When I called, I was treated extremely rudely and hung up on again and again. I emailed them repeatedly and never got a response. Total scam artists.
